LEDwall for Events: How to Put Your Audience at the Centre of the Experience

When people talk about events, they often focus on audio, lighting, production or staging—and rightly so. But when the real objective is to communicate a message, whether during a product launch, press conference, corporate convention or internal meeting, it is the screen that carries the most visible part of the story.
Audio needs to be clear and impactful. Lighting adds rhythm, depth and emotion. But it is the screen that communicates. It is where content takes shape, becomes understandable, desirable and memorable.

For this reason, choosing an LED wall for events should never be based solely on budget or the number of square metres required. It should begin with a much more important question: What do I need to communicate, and what content do I have—or am I willing to create—to communicate it effectively?
There is no single correct answer. For some events, a clean, proportioned and perfectly readable flat LED wall is the ideal solution. It supports keynote presentations, corporate slides, product videos and branded messaging with elegance and authority.
In other cases, however, the project reaches another level when the LED wall stops being a simple display and becomes part of the scenography: digital arches, columns, cubes, immersive tunnels, digital wings or custom-built structures that merge with the content and transform information into an experience. The goal is not to impress people with an unusual shape.
The goal is to find the right shape to give greater impact to the content.

Choosing the Right Size, Shape and Pixel Pitch

The first rule is simple: there is no standard solution. Every LEDwall for events should be designed according to: the venue, audience layout, viewing distance, stage proportions, type of content
how the event will be experienced both live and on camera. As a general guideline:

  • A 55-inch display is usually sufficient in a living room.
  • In a meeting room with around ten attendees, an 85-inch display is already recommended.
  • For an audience of approximately 150 people, a 5 × 3 metre LED wall is often an excellent starting point.
  • Above 250 attendees, an 8 × 4 metre LED wall generally becomes a more appropriate choice.

These are only reference values. A deep room, a narrow stage, a wide audience, side seating, text-heavy presentations or highly dynamic visual content can completely change the design. This is where formulas stop—and real technical design begins. At Imagines, this phase is never treated as an afterthought.

Every project is visualised in advance to understand exactly how the audience will experience the content within the space. Because the difference between a technically correct solution and a truly effective one is almost always decided long before arriving on site.

Flat Screen or Custom Shape?

When clarity and readability are the priorities, a traditional rectangular LEDwall for events remains one of the strongest choices. It is ideal for: keynote presentations, conventions, press conferences, product launches, corporate meetings. It brings order to the stage, supports the speaker and frames the presentation naturally.

Other events require something different. Sometimes content shouldn’t simply be seen—it should be experienced. In these cases, the screen itself becomes part of the storytelling. Digital arches welcoming guests. Immersive tunnels introducing the audience to the event atmosphere. Illuminated cubes surrounding a product. LED columns defining the venue. Curved surfaces embracing the audience.

Here, the LEDwall for events becomes architectural rather than decorative. A custom structure is not effective simply because it looks unusual. It works because it communicates with both the content and the venue. When visuals and architecture speak the same language, the audience’s perception changes dramatically.

Pixel Pitch: The Quality People Actually Notice

Pixel pitch is one of the most important factors affecting image quality. The basic rule is well known: the smaller the pixel pitch, the higher the perceived resolution, especially at close viewing distances.
However, pixel pitch only makes sense when considered within the context of the project.
If viewers are positioned within approximately 5 metres and the screen is displaying corporate presentations, product videos, institutional graphics or detailed information, pixel pitch becomes particularly important.
For large LED walls—typically wider than five metres—a 2.6 mm pixel pitch often represents the best balance between size, quality and viewing comfort.
For smaller installations or premium applications such as immersive tunnels, museum installations or exhibition stands, 1.9 mm significantly increases perceived image quality.
For compact LED totems measuring around 60 × 200 cm, a 1.5 mm pixel pitch is almost essential, as close viewing distances make pixel density immediately noticeable.

Pixel pitch, however, is only part of the equation. Colour accuracy matters. Camera performance matters. Viewing angles matter. White balance. Black levels. Video processing.
The ability to perform under stage lighting, television cameras and demanding production environments. Lower-quality systems often reveal obvious weaknesses: overly harsh whites, less refined colours, lower image quality.
Others become apparent only on camera: moiré, banding, flickering, image artefacts that are difficult to correct during production.
Professional practice is clear on this point: LED wall, video processor and camera should always be considered as one integrated system.
For this reason, the lowest quotation is rarely the best solution.

Content Is the Real Multiplier

Even the best LED technology can produce disappointing results if the content is not designed properly. The screen itself is not what creates emotion. The content displayed on it is.

This is one of the fundamental truths of live production. Content is not simply something that gets “played back”. It is part of the event design. It should be developed according to: screen dimensions, screen shape, production rhythm, stage design, audience experience.
When visuals are created specifically for a particular screen and event, everything changes. Coordinated graphics. Purpose-built animations. Key visuals designed around the actual screen geometry. Opening and closing sequences that integrate with the scenography. All these elements multiply the impact of the communication.

This becomes even more important with custom LED structures. A flat LED wall can successfully display existing presentations, corporate videos and 16:9 content. But once the screen becomes an arch, tunnel, cube or sculptural installation, the content must genuinely interact with its geometry.

This is where the project evolves. The visuals are no longer adapted to the screen. The screen and the content are designed together. Even starting from existing assets—commercial videos, corporate presentations or institutional materials—it is possible to build something unique. Working alongside your creative agency, or with the Imagines Content Team, existing materials can be enhanced while developing only the custom visual elements truly needed to create coherence, movement and identity throughout the event.

The Most Common Mistakes When Choosing an LED Wall

The most common misconception is that more square metres automatically create more impact. They don’t. A larger screen with inadequate quality, the wrong pixel pitch, an unsuitable shape or poorly designed content can actually reduce the effectiveness of an event.

Another common mistake is prioritising price over quality. Premium LED systems differ in many areas: pixel pitch, colour, accuracy viewing angles, white management, black depth, image processing, camera performance. These specifications may appear insignificant on a quotation sheet. During a live event, however, they determine whether a screen feels elegant, precise and professional.

A third mistake is overlooking camera production. Today’s events exist simultaneously inside the venue and online. Quality must therefore satisfy not only the live audience but also everyone watching the live stream, recap video or future recordings.

Finally, many organisers leave screen design until the last minute. When the LEDwall for events is introduced too late into the creative process, everything else suffers: graphics, production, scenography, pacing, opening sequences, closing moments. The best projects always balance quality, budget and communication objectives. Looking beyond the lowest price almost always leads to a better result.

Monitor, Projection or LED?

There is no universally best technology. There is only the right technology for each application.

For small meetings, breakout rooms and boardrooms, professional monitors are often the best choice. They are immediate, clean, reliable and ideal for small audiences. Imagines offers displays up to 100 inches, perfectly suited for these environments.

Projection remains extremely powerful when transforming large spaces, creating projection mapping or turning architecture itself into part of the storytelling. Our inventory includes projectors up to 30,000 ANSI lumens, designed for immersive environments and large-scale installations.

Today, however, LEDwall for events satisfy the vast majority of event requirements. Why? Because events almost always involve light: stage lighting, ambient lighting, daylight, outdoor environments, reflections. Conditions that are difficult to control completely. In these situations, LED walls offer the most complete solution: large formats, deep blacks, vibrant colours, high brightness, excellent visual impact.

There Is No Perfect Screen

There is only the right solution for: the venue, the audience, the content, the stage, the production, the communication objective.
Sometimes the right answer is a clean, elegant rectangular LED wall. Sometimes it is a custom-built structure that merges architecture and storytelling. Neither option is inherently better.
Each becomes the right choice only when it is designed around a clear creative vision. The “wow” effect is not measured in square metres. It is designed.

Technology as a Creative Puzzle

The strength of an event today lies not simply in having access to technology, but in knowing how to combine the right technologies like pieces of a puzzle.

Sometimes that puzzle results in a clean, elegant corporate LED wall. Other times it becomes an ambitious scenic installation featuring illuminated columns, digital arches, cubes, immersive tunnels, curved surfaces or custom compositions that merge seamlessly with the visual content.

Alongside LED walls, professional monitors for breakout sessions, high-brightness projectors for immersive environments, presentation switchers, media servers and image processors all contribute to delivering precision, flexibility and creative freedom.

Yet all this technology only has value when it serves an idea. The true added value is not owning the equipment. It is knowing how to use it to create a unique, memorable and fully customised event. It means designing before arriving on site. Supporting content creation whenever necessary. Understanding how visuals perform not only inside the venue but also through television cameras.

Bringing decades of production experience—Imagines has been working in professional video production since 1989—into every project, knowing exactly how much the audience experience changes when a screen must work equally well for those in the room and those watching remotely.

It is through this combination of expertise, planning, technology, content and production know-how that a screen stops being hardware and truly becomes communication.
